Kick Counting: Do you know what a healthy baby feels like?

Submitted by HealthyPregnancy4All on September 27, 2007 - 08:16.

During pregnancy, moms are accustomed to a variety of screening tests for conditions such as Down syndrome and diabetes. The rationale for these tests is not to make moms anxious about their pregnancy but to identify potential pregnancy problems to allow for timely intervention.

What is kick counting?
Kick counting, a daily systematic record of moms’ perception of their baby’s movement during the third trimester, is a reliable, harmless, simple and effective screening for the baby’s well-being. Kick counting can document changes in the fetal movement pattern and can help moms-to-be alert their healthcare provider of potential problems. A timely evaluation can allow intervention and prevention of potential problems, including stillbirth.

New HMM categories and links

Submitted by HighMaintenanceMom on February 21, 2007 - 22:36.

This evening the original High Maintenance Mom categories were revised to include more common and easy to understand terms. Although I will miss Pocket Physicist (a nickname for my husband after he spent a two hour car ride explaining nuclear reactors and other physics phenomena to a famous paleobotanist), Education is a more descriptive term for the content in that area. I'm hoping choosing categories for future articles will be easier for everyone.

Save Your Face

Submitted by beantownmom on June 22, 2006 - 16:49.

My Mothers always said, "Save your face and use plenty of sunscreen". I use sunscreen but also like a nice summer glow. I found a great new product, Olay's Touch of Sun face lotion with SPF 15. The more you use it the more glow you get and it looks so natural. I havent tried the body lotions with self tanner yet but my Mom has and she likes it. Since I had my baby I feel the need to look better and more in style.

The following items are for sale on Craig's List in Redwood City, CA.

1. Gently used Ralph Lauren blue and white patchwork quilt. King - 108" x 90". We paid $325 for it and it's in the original packaging.

2. Used Vera Wang off-white wedding dress. I bought the dress at a consignment store in Boston for a Feb. 1997 wedding and was told it was a fall 1996 gown. It has now been worn twice and was just cleaned. I am about 5'1" and I wore heels. The original size is an 8 but I recently tried it on and it seems more like a 4 dress size (I'm not sure how wedding dresses are sized). The buttons down the back are real and the design is beautiful. The woman who altered the dress for me removed the Vera Wang tag. I was very upset but planned to save it for my children. I now have two boys so I'm hoping someone else can use it. There was a small tear in the back so the person who altered it for me added a bow to cover it. I felt like a princess at my (our) wedding. Our three year-old saw a picture of me in it and said, "mommy, I didn't know you were a princess?" and just like that, the dress was worth it all over again.
