Looking for cost efficient and easy-to-use diaper wipes, try Costco's brand

When our first was born, I made my own diaper wipes with gentle, organic products and expensive paper towels. It was exciting for the first week or two. I then spent the next month or so trying to wipe the paper towel shreds off my son's butt. At daycare, they used Costco (Kirkland brand) wipes. I thought they might be fine for an older child but my baby needs something special. We then tried a bunch of different wipes but ended up using the Kirkland ones. With our second, we went to the Kirkland wipes a few weeks after birth (we used paper towels or cloth diapers with water before that and during bad diaper rashes). Recently, I bought the Huggies wipes at Costco, the Target brand Huggies wipes, and the Target brand Pampers wipes...

The Huggies wipes from Costco come in several big bags. They are soft and stay surprisingly wet, even when you leave the bag open. The problem is that the bag is difficult to close and I found the bag too big "for display" in our bathrooms.

The Target Pampers and Huggies wipes that I bought came in "regular size" hard case, which I like, but they come out one at a time so I was constantly trying to hold down the baby and dig in the box for the next wipe. It was too difficult.

The Costco wipes now come in six self-contained soft packages per box (they used to include two of the hard cases). The wipes are pretty easy to get out and the "lid" is easy to close. The size of the container is small enough that it doesn't demand too much attention in the bathroom but large enough to be of use. And at about $0.02 a wipe, they're not a bad deal.

Costco and Target do not currently have baby wipes in their online stores. If you want to order wipes online, drugstore.comicon has a variety of brands and lots of other products.

As I mentioned in Costco - Holiday items and more, we tried the new Costco wipes and are happy with them. There was concern over Costco switching to "quilted" wipes like the Huggies ones since Costco's new diapers are like Huggies (see Kirkland (Costco) brand diapers replace Pampers). Luckily for those of us who swear by the Costco wipes the new ones work like the previous ones. If only they still carried Pampers...

We used Quickables dry wipes (wet them ourselves and stored in Ziplock bags), Seventh Generation and Tushies. I find that I like Kirkland and Tushies the best. Both are quilted and seem to have less friction and the soft plushy Seventh Generation wipe. The Seventh Generation and Kirkland are the same size, where the Tushies are smaller. Costwise, the Kirkland are significantly cheaper, although Seventh Generation is usually on price break at Amazon.
