Chickenpox outbreak in vaccinated kids?

My three year-old has something that could potentially be chickenpox; it's been difficult to get a diagnosis. A little over two weeks ago, several children were sent home with something that looked like chickenpox. Several doctors claimed the rash wasn't chickenpox. I'm not sure what to do with that information because the non-chickenpox rash showed up on my son after the known fourteen day chickenpox incubation period from when he was playing with an infected child (whose siblings, BTW, do not have the rash)...

I had a very itchy rash as a child that was diagnosed as "not chickenpox" but was told that I carried the antibody when I was pregnant. I'm not sure if it really matters what the rash is. As long as it goes away soon and doesn't cause too much pain for our ten month-old whose symptoms are currently confined to being cranky (after a possible antibiotic allergy - I thought he had chickenpox but the bumps decreased in size with benedryl).

Trying to get information online has been frustrating. I found this close-up picture of chicken pox but it's not what his bumps look like. His rash is confined to one half of his stomach. The red bumps vary in size, look like they are already disappearing within a few days without becoming vescicles (there may have been one vescicle), and he hasn't been scratching. There are several articles about outbreaks in vaccinated children. The articles state that children react differently and mild cases can be difficult to detect. I wish there was an easy test to determine what all the kids have. Until then, I will continue pause each time I have an itch and hope that the rash disappears so we can all go back to work.
