The new HMM picks include the LeapFrog Leapster® Learning Game System, My Book About Me, and MGA Play Smarter Cook'n Learn Kitchen.

LeapFrog's Leapster - We bought a Leapster before a hospital visit and it has been a huge success. We ended up waiting at the hospital for three hours in the morning and it was used for most of that time (we also read books together). Now that the Leapster is at home, both kids are using it. They love trying to collect carrots in the math and letters games that are included.

Seuss's My Book About Me - I remember this book being magical from my childhood and my kids are fascinated by it. The reading level is basic enough for a beginning (level 2 or 3?) reader to be able to participate. Both my kids love it but being able to read it oneself is really fun.

Little Tikes Cook'n Learn Kitchen - these toys are so amazing for imaginary play. Our preschool has all the kitchen equipment you need to prepare a five course imaginary meal. I love watching how kids play with the equipment differently over time. At first my kids chewed on the vegetables then they would pretend to eat a meal. Eventually they started to prepare meals and eat with others. If you don't have space for a big kitchen, there are also lots of smaller sets such as the Alex Wooden Cook Top Playstove, Cooking Utensils Set, and Melissa and Doug Cutting Food Box. Our daycare also has garage sale plates/bowls/bakeware that the kids love to use in the sandbox.

I also love the mudpuppy 9 piece two-in-one puzzles. They are great for ages 2-3 and help with fine motor skills and attention. I thought they might be to difficult for my 23 month old when she got one as a gift but was surprised to see that she could master it with a little guidance. She loved the puzzle so much I went out a got her another one. You can find them at mudpuppy.com.

I also got a trial issue of Ladybug, the magazine for young people. They have a whole line of age appropriate magazines (www.cricketmag.com). My daughter loves getting things in the mail and we read the stories together and she draws on the pictures.
