Fire Prevention Week: October 7-13

It's Fire Prevention Week and the National Fire Protection Association is scheduling the Great American Fire Drill (check out their pdf fire plan checklist and grid). Pick a day in October, make a plan, then practice. Afterwards, record your drill on sparky.com (a fun site for kids who love fire trucks). Lego City and NFPA are also running a trivia sweepstakes.

My daughter's school had a fire drill last week and the fire man came in first to say hello and show them their gear and to prepare them for the very loud noise (age range 2.5 - 4). The teachers said that the kids were all OK with the noise and were mostly fascinated with the fire men and the trucks. I have a neighbor who is a fire man and he often drives the truck by the house to have everyone wave....my daughter loves it.
