Transitioning back home after being awaySubmitted by HighMaintenanceMom on November 20, 2005 - 15:38.
I was in Alaska last week and returned to a sick husband. There really are times when I wonder how everyone else, who isn't happily medicated or with full-time live-in help, does it. As I write this, I can hear B asking if his nap, which he hasn't taken even though he threw a huge fit while we were trying to leave a playdate, is over. No, it's still not over. My biggest worry is that he'll wake his brother and then I won't even be able to fall back on a video since Baby Entropy is much more interested in destruction than he is in being sedated by the television... Among the countless errands and things on my to do list for this weekend, I really wanted to get a new bra. I found a new bra in August but it disappeared two weeks ago and I can not locate it. How did that happen? I only had one good bra and it was either on me or in the wash. So I'm stuck with several bras that I should have thrown away years ago but I didn't because I wanted to replace them with my prepregnancy bra size and chose to wait it out. Of course, I'm still not my prepregnancy size, however, not having a good bra isn't making me feel any better. On top of my bra mystery, I am also exhausted from folding four loads of laundry until 12:30 am. It's not that I don't want to be home, it's just hard to transition back from my fabulous tour of clean hotel rooms (yes it was -12F some nights and I did feel challenged trying to find the lane lines while driving my compact car on the snow and ice, but it was a great trip). My plan was to set aside all the work I want to do, and just focus on the kids for the entire weekend. We all missed each other and I've learned that it's a good idea to see what they want to do instead of planning more "special events". The problem is trying to integrate time with the kids with all the cooking, cleaning, and shopping. We had fun yesterday and both kids helped me shop for food. Parts of today, however, were a little challenging. I ended up calling a friend and begging to bring the kids over to her new house so The Pocket Physicist could sleep. She moves two weeks from now into a beautiful house that backs onto a park and I am so grateful we were able to drop by. The kids had a great time running around. Baby Entropy went to sleep quickly after we got home but B didn't fall asleep until a little after 3 pm (10 minutes before his brother woke up). It was one of those times when I really wished I had more help so I could run errands. The problem with running the errands is that it's hard for the kids to go on every errand, especially during holiday time when all the toys are out, but if they don't go, then I'm sad that I'm not spending time with them after being away. It might be a good time to look into a grocery delivery service... |
