Book Reviews: The Very Busy SpiderThe Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle is one of my favorite children's books because it so closely mimics life while introducing kids to interesting animals... The Spider is a diligent worker in what could be construed as a cubicle with a window. Throughout the day animals come up to our heroine trying to distract her from her work. '"Meow! Meow!" cried the cat. "Want to take a nap?"' Our heroine ignores each distraction in favor of finishing her work. In the end, the Spider's product does its job but she's too exhausted to revel in the positive reviews. My kids love this book. Not only do you meet different animals, learn the sounds they make, and an activity they enjoy, but the spider, web, and fly all stand out on each page. |
